API Hour, Latest API News|

We host another ApiHour on Monday, Aug. 31, at 10 a.m. in the Maelbeek Room at the Residence Palace, featuring new research on the evolving Brussels press corps. 👉 Registration for EU-accredited journalists only via Google Form.

Following a brief introduction by Romain Sadet, Head of Media Relations at the Council, EU-accredited journalists are invited to discuss the findings of a recent study commissioned by the Council’s General Secretariat in collaboration with Professor Sophie Lecheler of the University of Vienna. The study finds that the number of accredited journalists has grown from 359 in 2002 to 842 in 2025, although it remains well below the 2013 peak of 1,330. Brussels correspondents also continue to be predominantly mid-career, with an average age of 45.

The report also examines how artificial intelligence, disinformation and encrypted messaging apps are reshaping EU reporting, while underscoring the continued importance of off-the-record briefings and institutional press services.
