API-IPA takes note of the European Commission’s reply to to the European Ombudsman. However, correspondents regret the Commission’s decision to abolish embargoed distributions for Euro indicators rather than address legitimate concerns through sensible reform.

The Brussels-based Foreign Correspondents Association (API-IPA) stands in full solidarity with the journalists and staff of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) during this difficult period. Many of its committed staff have worked here in Brussels. The recent decision to terminate funding for RFE/RL, as part of broader cuts to the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), represents a serious setback for independent journalism and the principles of press freedom.

IN MEMORIAM: ANTONIO FORESI (1938-2024)
We are saddened to announce the passing of our member Antonio Foresi on September 20. Antonio served as a correspondent for Italian broadcaster RAI for a quarter of a century, from 1976 to 2001. Born in Livorno in 1938, Antonio witnessed World War II, the post-war peace of 1945, and later traveled across Europe with his father during the formative years of the European Community, a journey he reflected on in his 2021 book L’ABC dell’Europa.
Esther Herrera new Api Council member
The International Press Association API-IPA is pleased to announce that Spanish API members have appointed Esther Herrera Caro as their representative on the API-IPA Council. Esther replaces longtime Api council member and former vice-president Griselda Pastor who has had to step down due to illness. Esther has worked for several Spanish and international media for over ten years, mainly for France 24 and RFI Spanish.
The general assembly of the International Press Association API-IPA today elected Swedish journalist Christian Ernhede, senior correspondent for ENDS (Environmental Data Services), and an API member since 2019, as vice-president.
