Dispatches, Latest API News|

As most of you you will know by now the European Commission’s Security Office has launched a new format for the inter-institutional badges.

They are no longer yellow but white. The name of the media of the holder and the accreditation number are not mentioned anymore, only family name, surname and expiration date. API-IPA has been informed that all these changes were made for practical and security reasons.

Since many of us are a little bit confused about the new format here is the explanation of the two new symbols on the badge:

  • The luggage symbol means that the journalist has to pass the security check

  • The exclamation mark means that access is limited to certain zones (BERL-press area, Council-press area, etc.)

It is possible that some journalists still have received a yellow badge, in case they renewed their accreditation at the end of December or at the beginning of January. There is no need to change these badges now. Yellow badges issued with an expiration date of 28/02/2021 will be valid until at least September 2020. Journalists with such a yellow badge will be informed in July about the necessary change.
